Why Tara Mor is NYC's Home of GAA | Hurling & Football Bar
There are plenty of bars in New York with a TV on during a Championship match. Tara Mor is the one that's actually part of the GAA scene here, and below is everything happening between now and the finals.
Hurling reaches its semi-finals first. Galway face Cork at Croke Park on Saturday, July 4th, and Limerick play Clare a day later on Sunday, July 5th, with the winners through to the All-Ireland Hurling Final.
The All-Ireland Hurling Final is Sunday, July 19th. Throw-in at Croke Park is 3:30pm Irish time, which lands at 10:30am in New York. Doors at Tara Mór open at 9am for breakfast ahead of throw-in. It's also World Cup Final day at MetLife Stadium, so Tara Mór has both finals live on the same Sunday.
Football's semi-finals are already set after the quarter-final draw: Mayo face Louth on Saturday, July 11th (6pm Irish time, 1pm NY), and Dublin face Kerry on Sunday, July 12th (4pm Irish time, 11am NY).
The All-Ireland Football Final is Sunday, July 26th. Throw-in time will be confirmed closer to the date, but doors at Tara Mór open at 9am regardless of kickoff, the same way they do for the hurling final.
More than a sponsor logo
Tara Mór has been the official jersey sponsor of the Manhattan Gaels since 2024, with the team in regularly for nights out at the bar. Kevin Doherty, who runs the bar's GAA programming, grew up with the sport in Donegal before bringing it to Midtown. The bar has shown every All-Ireland Final live since 2024, season after season.
Built for matchday
GAA isn't on mainstream American sports networks, and a lot of fans end up watching alone through the GAA+ app rather than with a crowd. Tara Mór is set up to be the alternative. New York GAA is one of the stranger entries in Gaelic games — a county team based entirely outside Ireland, competing in the Connacht Championship against the home counties, playing its games at Gaelic Park in the Bronx. Tara Mór is in Midtown, two minutes' walk from Penn Station and a block from Madison Square Garden — easier to reach than most GAA bars in the city if you're coming from a train, the subway, or anywhere downtown or in New Jersey. No long trip to the Bronx or out to a suburb required to watch a Championship game properly.
Championship season runs April through July, and the bigger fixtures fill the place fast — that's true for the semi-finals, and it's especially true for finals weekends. Book ahead if you can, or just walk in early.
